Beszelek magyarul eleg jol de nem jol mint szeretnem. Actually, my character in the film makes some funny mistakes that I wouldn’t make in real life. But there are some Hungarian words or grammatical constructions that I learned from her. When I’m dating, I think I speak normally. But you’ll have to ask the guys!

I learned Hungarian during the two-month shoot of “Lora.” So Gabor wrote a role in Hungarian for me in VA2. Thank you for your kind words about my pronunciation! Kietis, nem? Well, even though you don’t see that much of the salsa scene in the film, I actually rehearsed that scene for weeks with my teachers, Barto and Beige. We created a really long and complicated combination that was totally amazing! But, I guess to speed up the story, most of it wasn’t shown. That was the most challenging part, but also the most fun. And in a sense, every scene was really hard because I had to do them all in Hungarian – a legnehezeb nyelv a vilagban!

“Lora” was deeply moving is nagyon nehez munka volt. VA2 was just really fun to do. Kind of a break from all the drama. I’m glad you liked both of them. Thank you. Yes, this time it was my real voice. It was a very fun challenge to actually speak in Hungarian!

Szia, Zoli! Boldog uj evet nekked is! Koszonom szepen. I learned most of my Hungarian during the two months that I was working on “Lora” and I got to brush it up during the VA2 shoot. Gabor wrote the role for me as a Cuban dance teacher who learns Hungarian, in order to work in Hungary. My first Hungarian movie was “Lora,” which was not a comedy, but which is a film very close to my heart. I don’t have a boyfriend in Hungary, if that’s what you mean, but many dear friends.

Thank you! Well, you can become a better dancer, if you take classes. Have you ever thought about it? Yes, I have Latin blood and I do think it helps – haha! I have been lucky enough to travel quite a bit and I hope to travel much more. I had fantasies of staying in Budapest, but my family would have killed me! I also love Paris and Buenos Aires. And Berlin! And Dublin!

I love Hungary! It has become a second home. One thing I hope for is that the old Hungary gives way to the new Hungary and becomes more tolerant of different races and religions, gay people, and more supportive of women. But that is something I would like to see happen in every country, including the U.S. We’re on our way, though, with our new President!

Thank you! I love dancing! My first word was “bala,” which means “dance” in Olaszul. I don’t have a dance school, but I grew up dancing ballet and I love all kinds of dance. I had wonderful salsa teachers for VA2 – Barto and Beige. If you want to learn to dance salsa, you should definitely go to their school in Budapest. They are the best!

Nemrég láttam a filmet és megmondom őszintén nagyon tetszett és mikor megláttalak téged fhuu mondom ez a film csucspontja, hogy te is szerepelsz benne! I was born in San Francisco, California. What I love about Hungarians is how cultured they are. So many Hungarians know classical music deeply, and art and literature. I think your country has a great education system and I admire that. You have given the world great composers, inventors, and artists of all kinds. Thank you for that! A funny feature of Hungarians is that they have a topless woman on the cover of their daily newspaper! That would never be allowed in America! Although you are a Catholic country, in some ways, you are much more permissive than we are.

(Lucia: San Franciscoban, Californiában születtem. A magyarokban legjobban a kulturáltságukat szeretem. Nagyon sok magyar jól ismeri a komoly zenét, művészeteket és az irodalmat. Úgy gondolom, hogy a ti országotokban jól működő oktatási rendszer van, és ezt csodálom.Világhírű zeneszerzőket, feltalálókat és mindenféle művészeket adtatok a világnak. Köszönet érte! Thank you so much! I loved doing “Lora,” too. So, it was wonderful for me to be able to return to Hungary and to working again with Gabor on VA2. At the moment, I’m focusing a bit more on politics and am not planning any film work. Down the line, I probably will act again. But we have a unique, historical opportunity right now with our new President, Barack Obama.

I learned some Hungarian from working on “Lora.” Then, when Gabor wrote the role for me in VA2, I worked with my friends Anna and Nadja on my lines, so I could say them correctly, which is to say “wrong,” since the character’s Hungarian is somewhat poor. The hardest part for me was some of the inflections because in America, where me speak in a much more flat way, whereas Hungarians, especially when they’re asking questions, exercise a full musical range!

Nem tudom, milyen nyelven szóljak hozzád / I don't know in what language should I ask. :) I saw you in Herendi Gábor's both films you acted in, and - besides this and as I really find you a talented, suggestive and sensitive, colorful actress - I'm wondering why Hungary? :) While I was watching VA2, I had the impression of the "Yes, we can-feeling". I liked this. :) But in a special Magyar aspect, mixed with a lot minor failures and good-and-bad human (and tipical Hungarian) caricatures. This was funny. :) What do you think, why are we often so bitter? Or don't you think so? Could and did you make changes in the script and the play, if you needed to? When I saw the trailer of the movie, I thought you play an American woman, but it turned out you play a mediterran girl. Firstly I didn't understand it, but then I got love it! How do you regard it? :) In what language did you play?

Thank you for you kind words! And thank you for seeing both movies. Yes, nagyon vicces hogy the Hungarian characters try to exhibit American optimism, but their natural Hungarian character gets in the way. It is true, generally speaking, Americans are more hopeful and Hungarians more pessimistic (although I think Hungarian teenagers are a little more open these days, don’t you?). I can only imagine that being in the Carpathian Basin and having every one invade you for thousands of years, culminating in a long, grey Communist regime, might have something to do with the dark outlook of many Hungarians. I think America’s location and size have a lot to do with its people’s positive outlook. People had to cross oceans and unfriendly terrain to find their new home, so we are founded on a heritage of “Yes, we can,” yes we can overcome any challenge.

I haven’t seen VA2 yet, but I hope to soon. What changes would I make in the script? I read a review where the critic said that my character could have seduced Pindroch Csaba more with her intelligence, rather than just with her sex appeal. I might agree with that. Except that Eszter’s character is the smarter one in the film, and my character has to be one the that the audience doesn’t want to win as much. So, in the end, it was kind of fun just to be a little bit of a bimbo – especially after playing so many serious parts.

In “Lora,” I spoke English and was dubbed, but because every one was speaking Hungarian to me, and because I had a translator and friends who were teaching me Hungarian through daily conversation, I learned a little bit of the language, which is why Gabor wrote a role for me in VA2 in Hungarian. That is my real voice. Gabor deliberately wrote a character who speaks Hungarian badly, which made it easier for me. But Cinthia, my character, makes different mistakes than I would.

…It was fun to play a totally different character than in “Lora.” I really loved playing Lora and then switching into this femme fatale character who gets to dance and speak Hungarian badly. The drama of Lora was a great acting exercise, but the comedy of VA2 was refreshing!

Lucia: Élvezetes volt egy egész más karaktert alakítani, mint a Lorában. Nagyon szerettem Lora szerepét is, aztán ezt a váltást ebbe a végzet asszonya figurába, aki táncol és rosszul beszél magyarul. Lora drámája egy nagy színészi kihívás volt, a VA2 komédia ezután egy igazi felfrissülés. )

I am a United States citizen and was born in the city of San Francisco, California. My father’s family is a mixture of English/Irish and Mexican. My mother’s family is Italian. I really enjoyed Hungary and miss it very much, whenever I’m away. I made friends there who will last a lifetime.

Szia, Tamas! I participated in the movie because I really enjoyed working with Gabor and Skyfilm on “Lora.” Gabor nagyon kedves volt irni egy szerepbenet nekkem Valami Amerika 2-be. Probalkozom hogy beszelni Magyarul job mint elodte. De nincs “accents” vanak on my computer. Akkor nehez nekkem irni!
